After reaching Vientiane, take pleasure in an expedition to an open air museum, Wat Xieng Khuan (Buddha Park). This place hosts a miscellaneous gathering of an unusual but convincing statues of Buddhist and Hindu gods. Overnight in Vientiane.

The capital city of Laos and second most liked city by the tourist, Vientiane still feels like a quiet city with tranquil appeal, tree-lined roads, elegant temples and vibrant markets. Travel around the city’s places of interest including That Luang, a shining golden stupa which is probably the most significant national monument in Laos; Ho Pha Keo, the official royal temple, currently a museum with beautiful examples of Buddhist sculpture; Wat Si Saket, Patuxai, a massive arch motivated by the Arc de Triomphe but carried out with Lao motifs and Wat Si Muang. Conclude your day at Talaat Sao or “morning market” (actually open whole day), the best place to buy traditional Lao fabrics. Overnight in Vientiane.

Drive to the north in the course of the picturesque region of Vientiane. The pleasing weather and the views are gorgeous passing mountains and cliffs alongside the first part of the trip. Visit a salt field in Ban Keun and continue for a boat ride on Nam Ngum Lake, a peaceful, manmade reservoir which also produces a share of the electricity sold to Thailand. Prior to ongoing to Vang Vieng, halt at Talat fish market in Huay Mor. Overnight in Vang Vieng.

Depart for Phonsavanh (Xieng Khuang) from Vang Vieng, halting to travel around Tham Phom Hom Cave. Overnight in Phonsavanh.

Begin the day by visiting local markets and go on to the well-known Plain of Jars, an enormous region that expands around Phonsavanh from the south-west to the north-east. Baffling and primordial, more than 300 massive stone jars apparently engraved out of solid rock are spotted around the plateau. The jars diverge in size from 1 to 3.25 meters high and each weighs up to six tons. There have been numerous different hypotheses as to the purpose of the jars, which are expected to be 2,500 to 3,000 years old. According to local legend, King Khun Chuang had them built in order to stock up wine for the merriment of his take-over of the territory in the 6th century. Later carry on to Muang Khoun, a prehistoric capital and a fortress for the Xieng Khuang regal family which was ruined in the Indochina War. After 1975, the town was restructured with wooden Lao houses that are lined up and a market section and is enclosed by striking mountain surroundings. A leisurely trip will begin along mountain roads with dazzling sights of the forested mountains, thriving valleys and karst formations. Halt at Muang Sui, visiting the picturesque Nong Tang Lake edged with limestone cliffs; and the widespread cave network of Tham Pha Cave. Lately revealed, this cave includes a 5m high Buddha image that dates back from 777 AD, enclosed by gold and wooden statues of smaller sizes. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Luang Prabang is a captivating town and the most liked place by the tourists. It is located amid Nam Khan and Mekong rivers and brim with historic temples and royally style structures. In 1995, the whole town was affirmed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Begin the day at Wat Visoun (Wat Wisunalat). The oldest existing temple in Luang Prabang, Wat Visoun dates back to 1513 and has a variety of antique wooden Buddha. Take a trip to the close by Wat Aham before ongoing to Wat Xieng Thong, the crowning jewel of the entire monasteries and temples in the city. Many of its elaborate buildings attribute superb mosaic and gold-stenciled wall paintings. Leisurely walk down the main street of Luang Prabang from there, halting at some of the many temples that line its sides, including Wat Sibounheuang, Wat Si Moungkhoun, Wat Sop and Wat Sene.Continue to National Museum (Royal Palace), a reticent but elegant building which merges traditional Lao and French beaux-arts motifs. This turn-of-the century royal residence has been conserved as it was when the royal family last lived here and offers distinctive insights into the history of Laos. Then, visit Hor Phrabang. In the right front corner room of the Palace which opens to the outside, is a collection of the palace’s most prized art, including Phrabang, cast of a gold, silver and bronze alloy. This Buddha stands at 83 cm tall and weighs around 50 kg.

End the day with a divine sunset view at Mount Phousi. Ascend 328 steps beginning from the access on the reverse side of National Museum or 410 steps on the other side of Khan River to the small temples at the summit of Phou Si, the 150m high hill which sits in the middle of the town contributing stunning views over the temples and river. Go up the river Mekong to the sheer limestone cliffs overlooking Mekong and Nam Ou rivers, home to Tham Pak Ou Caves. These incredible caves are full with Buddha images of every style and material possible. On the way to Pak Ou Cave, halt at Ban Xang Hai Village, a local village renowned for the manufacture of lao lao, the local rice wine whisky. (If setting up permits, it’s open 6.00 am – 15.00 pm and closed on every major Buddhist holiday).With a visit to Kuang Si Waterfalls, experience even more of the natural beauty of Laos. This waterfall is situated in just right natural surroundings near Luang Prabang, this multi-layered waterfall fall down over limestone formations into a sequence of turquoise pools. Enjoy swimming in the clear water or just relax in the natural atmosphere. On the way, pay visit at local village (Ban Ou or Ban Na Ouane) before returning back to Luang Prabang via vehicle.Develop your understanding of Laos’s culture with a visit to local handicraft villages. Visit the weaving village of Ban Xang Khong famous for its traditional hand woven cotton and silk, as well as invention of the local sa (mulberry) paper.
