Arrival Paro and Drive to Thimphu

After arriving in Paro, begin your journey with a scenic drive to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu. Along the way, visit Tachogang Lhakhang, a historic monastery built by the great Tibetan saint Thangtong Gyalpo, renowned for his engineering skills and spiritual contributions. Nearby, cross the famous iron chain suspension bridge, also constructed by Thangtong Gyalpo in the 15th century. It is one of the oldest and most remarkable feats of Bhutanese engineering.

Continue the drive through picturesque valleys and rolling hills until you reach Thimphu, where your Bhutan tour truly begins. We will spend the night in a hotel in the capital city of Thimphu.

Today, we will take a domestic flight from Bumthang to Paro (35mins). Once you arrive in Paro and check in at your hotel. Enjoy dinner at your hotel in Paro before retiring to your cozy room.

This will be an exciting day as we will hike up to the famed Tiger’s Nest. First, we will journey to Satsam Chorten and enjoy a leisurely hike up to Taktsang Monastery, often referred to as the “Tiger’s Nest.” This iconic monastery clings to a steep cliff, with a breathtaking drop of nearly 800 meters, providing panoramic views of the Paro Valley and the river below. Legend has it that during the latter part of the 8th century, Guru Padma Sambhava, regarded as the second Buddha in Bhutan, meditated at this remarkable location after descending on the back of a mystical flying tigress. The hike takes about 4 hours back and forth. Once you reach the view point of the monastery you have the option to visit the monastery which takes another hour hike.

Return to Paro and relax at your hotel. Celebrate your last evening with a special dinner at a local restaurant.
