A Journey to the Shangri La

An Introductory trip of Kham and Central Tibet.

Kunming-Dali-Lijiang-Zhongdian-Tsedang-Gyantse-Shigatse-Lhasa.

The trip takes you to the old and unsophisticated villages and the dreamland of Shangri-la from the modern capital city of Yunnan-Kunming that is famous for the mild climate all year round, to Central Tibet-which is the cultural heart of Tibet. From the trip, you will have an insight about the customs of Han people, Bai people, Naxi people and Tibetans with the background of plateau jokul, meadows, lakes and onrushing rivers. Besides the World Heritage-Old Lijiang Town, the deepest canyon in the world-Tiger Leaping Gorge and well-known Shangri-la (whose former name is Zhongdian), there are many other sparkly places arranged in the trip. It is believed that this trip will be an unforgettable experience in your life.
Yunnan, which comprises 3 counties of the ancient Kham province of traditional Tibet, is a step back in time with medieval villages of stone houses, arched bridges and classic Chinese temples and pavilions set among snow capped mountains and terraced rice fields. Yunnan is one of China's most ethnically diverse regions and we explore the fascinating Naxi, Bai and Tibetan cultures and sample the excellent local cuisine.

Itinerary

Day 01, Tue: Arrival in Kunming
Arrive in Kunming-the capital city of Yunan Province of China. Meet the guide at the airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight Harbour Plaza Hotel (5*)

Day 02, Wed: Kunming Sightseeing
Breakfast inside hotel, full day sightseeing of Kunming that covers Stone Forest, Minority Village, Flower & Birds Market. In the evening, you can enjoy typical Yunnan Cuisine with local performance in tourist restaurant. Overnight Harbour Plaza Hotel (5*)

Day 03, Thu: Flight to Dali
40 minutes morning flight to Dali and transfer to the hotel. Visit the Erhai Lake, the Three Pagoda, the South Gate of the Dali ancient town and transfer to Foreigner Street. Overnight Asia Star Hotel (4*)

Day 04, Fri: Drive to Lijiang
Visit the Butterfly Spring, transfer to Zhoucheng to visit the tie-dying in Zhoucheng and the Yan's Compound of Bai Minority in Xizhou. Drive to Lijiang for approx. 3.5 hrs (320km) and transfer to the hotel. Evening walk around the colorful ancient Town and enjoy the ancient & exotic culture here. Overnight Guan Fang Hotel (5*)

Day 05,Sat: Lijiang sightseeing
Full day sightseeing in Lijiang that includes Yulong Snow Mountain, Yufeng Lamasery, Yunshanping (by cable lift), Baisha Mular, Old Town Cultural Museum, Black Dragon Pond Park, Sifang (rectangular) street. In the evening, enjoy the ancient Naxi Music show (tickets included). Overnight Guan fang Hotel (5*)

Day 06, Sun: Lijiang to Zhongdian
Drive from Lijiang to Zhongdian via Tiger Leaping Gorge en route, Visit Somtsangling Monastery, and Tibetan family, overnight in Zhongdian Holy Palace Hotel (4*)

Day 07, Mon: Flight to Gonggar airport of Lhasa.
Morning flight to Lhasa, 1035-1220am. Guide will pick you up from at the airport and transfer to Tsedang city (120km). Visit Yumbulakhang Palace & Traduk Temple. Accommodation Tsedang hotel (4*).

Day 08, Tue: Drive to Gyantse
After breakfast, drive to Gyantse (7 hrs). 30 km from Tsedang, you will stop to take ferry across Yarlungdzangbo River and visit Samye Monastery en route-Tibet’s first established monastery, we will take a ferry across the wildest part of Yarlungzangbo River. And visit Yamdrok Lake, en route. Check in best available Gyantse Hotel (3*)

Day 09, Wed: Drive to Shigatse.
Visit Gyantse Dzong, Kumbum & Pelku Chode in Gyantse, drive to Shigatse, en route, visit Shalu monastery. Visit Tashilunbo Monastery. Overnight Shigatse Hotel (3*)

Day 10, Thu: Shigatse to Lhasa
Early drive Lhasa, en route sightseeing of Yundrungling and Drolma Lakhang, Overnight Dhod Gu Hotel.

Day 11-12, Fri: Lhasa sightseeing
Sightseeing of the major highlights of Lhasa such as Potala Palace, Drepung and Sera Monasteries, Norbulingkha and Barkhor Street.
Overnight Dhod Gu Hotel.

Day 13: Lhasa-Departure
Transfer to airport for flight to your next destination. You can fly to Kathmandu, Beijing, Chengdu or other Asian Cities via Chengdu.
