Kathmandu-Lukla-Chutanga-Thulikharka-Tashingdingma-Thagnak-Khare-Mera La-Summit-Retrace down to Lukla and fly to Kathmandu

Mera peak is the highest trekking peak and in recent years, it has been very much popular among the climbing enthusiasts who want to try something harder than regular trekking or experience some mountaineering. The famous mountaineers began their climbing with peaks like Mera and Island before they attempted 8 thousanders. No previous experience or formal climbing training is needed. The Peak itself rises to the south of Everest. The ascent of the peak is technically straightforward, however, the heavy snow and the maze of crevasses can make the way longer to the summit. Besides the charming of climbing Mera Peak, the trek to its base camp from Lukla is rewarding for experiencing little-visited and yet un-spoilt region of Nepal with densely forested hill sides.

There are several approaches to the base camp besides the easy and normal route which is mentioned below. The normal route for climbing Mera Peak is North Face Glacier from the Mera La. The base camp can be set up at 5,300m on the Hongu side in the moraine below the ice. Normally, high camp is set at 5,800m near a rocky outcrop on the Mera Glacier. The high camp proves to be one to the spectacular viewpoints in Nepal offering the panoramic views of Kanchanjunga, Chamlang, Makalu and Baruntse sweeping around from the east and Amadablam, Cho Oyu and Kangtega to the west. The giant faces of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse appear in the north.

Trip grade

This in basically a non technical climb but know how of use of ice axe, crampons and ropes will be an advantage and you will be under supervision and instruction from Nepalese trek leader. You will require a good amount of psychological and physical stamina.. Prior trekking experience is certainly an advantage, though not essential.

Personal Preparation
The trip combines a fairly challenging trek with the ascent of a Himalayan peak of significant height. Its important that you are physically fit and mentally well prepared and that you have good personal equipment. Team spirit in climbing expeditions is another factor for the success. You must be prepared for the possibility of bad weather and difficult conditions. You must prepare and train thoroughly for you to have any chance of success on this mountain. If you are very fit the easier it will be to deal with any difficulties, which may arise, and it will enhance your confidence and enjoyment of the trip. Do not take this trip lightly. All clients seeking to join this trip will be required to complete a special questionnaire dealing with levels of experience, general fitness and medical fitness.

All participants will need to prepare physically for this trip, commencing many months prior to departure. That certainly enhances your physical stamina plus builds up confidence in you. For your own enjoyment (and success!) you should undertake some long and demanding training walks which preferably involve several hundred meters of ascent and descent on difficult ground. Running, swimming, and cycling are all good examples of aerobic exercise. Gym work will also assist in your all-round training program. Those who arrive in Nepal having done little preparation are unlikely to have a good chance of success on Mera Peak. Your training should also involve carrying a back pack as you will need to be fit enough to carry your own clothing and equipment from Base Camp to High Camp.

Prepare to face any weather challenges
Our trip dates are set choosing the best weather conditions but nothing can be taken as granted. The weather conditions can dramatically change and we may not follow the itinerary in the exact order. You should be prepared for any changes, be open- minded and hang loose. You need to be able to deal with and manage these changes, frustrations and other unexpected events, in co-operation with the group, so as to maximize the chances of success on the mountain.

High Altitude Sickness

All of the trekkers will experience some degree of altitude sickness. Headache, dizziness and disorientation, breathlessness, sleeplessness etc are the preliminary symptoms of the altitude sickness. Our itinerary is so designed that you are properly acclimated before you are ready to attempt summit. However, the rate and extent to which you acclimatize and are able to cope with the high altitude of this expedition will be a personal thing. If you have experience of previous high altitude treks and climbing, you will have some feeling for how you are likely to go. If not, this will be part of the new experiences of this climb. The leader in consultation with the group will decide how this time is to be used. Participant with pulmonary and cardiac complaints should consult their physician before they sign up for this trip.
