Route
Kathmandu-Dhunche-Lama Hotel-Kyanjin Gompa-Lama Hotel-Sin Gompa-Gosaikunda Lake-Laurebina-Ghopte-Chisapanai-Kathmandu
Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek, which is the nearest trek destination from Kathmandu, yet less frequented than Annapurna Basecamp and Everest has extremely varied landscapes, rice-terraces, gigantic rhododendron, pine forest and fascinating views of Langtang Lirung(7246m) Yala peak(5,500m) and Langshisha Ri (6310m). You will also visit Gosaikunda Lake-one of the holiest Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site. According to the Hindu mythology, when the Devas ( Gods) and Davanavas (Demons) churned the primordial ocean to produce elixir of eternal life, the poison was also produced simultaneously. To save the universe from this poison, Lord Shiva drank it up scaring his throat blue in the process. To cool down his burning throat, Lord Shiva struck his trident into the rock creating three springs which ultimately resulted in the formation of beautiful lakes and the lord took a dip in the lake to cool himself down! The trek begins from Dhunche, accessible by a full day drive from Kathmandu. From here we spend four days hiking up through this beautiful alpine valley to Kyangjin where we rest for a day for some exploration of the high mountains and glacial systems. Here, mountains rise soaring towards the sky. The landscapes we cross are extremely varied; rice- terraces, gigantic rhododendron, pine forest, and in the highest parts, a rock and shrub wilderness with the fascinating backdrop of snow capped peaks. We visit the Holy lake of Gosaikunda, cross the Laurebina pass (4,600 meters) and drop into the lush Helambu region-which has different cultural experience and eventually finish the trek at Sundarijal from where Kathmandu is merely an hour drive.
