Annapurna Circuit is one of the celebrated trekking of Nepal and the first among ten best treks in the world. This trek offers the fascinating insight into the life of middle hill Nepalese ethnic groups from Hindu farmers to Tibetan Lamas, incredible views of many of the Himalayas’ most famous high peaks, crystal clear lakes, turbulent rivers with deep gorge and hot springs. Around Annapurna, the 332-km-trek is the only ideal trek If you are looking for diversity in both landscape and people. This three weeks trek completely around the famed Annapurna massif offers the fascinating ethnic groups, incredible views of many of the Himalayas’ most famous high peaks, crystal clear lakes, turbulent rivers with deep gorge, hot springs and constantly changing panoramas from lush tropical rice paddies and moss – laden rhododendron forests to Tibetan fortresses clinging to rocky cliffs. Actually Trekking to Annapurna Circuit takes you into the heart of the high mountains of Nepal. Thorung pass (5, 416m) is the highest altitude and climax of the trip. You should be physically fit and well acclimatized to attempt this pass. 

Itinerary

Day 01 Bus to Besisahar

Leave Kathmandu early morning to Besisahar (823m). You will follow Kathmandu Pokhara Highway up to Dumre from here you will follow Besisahar turn off. Today, we overnight guesthouse in Besisahar.

Day 02 Trek from Beshishahar to Ngadi (880m). (5 hrs)

You will begin your walk through farmlands of the lower middle hills, predominantly inhabited by caste Hindus. Continue your trek to Khudi Khola village, Bulbule Village and then to Ngadi. Ngadi is a small village of the people from Manang. 

Day 03 Trek Ngadi to Jagat (1,314m).

Your trek starts climbing to Bahundanda at the altitude of 1311m in a saddle between two Gurung hillside communities. You will descend and cross-Marshyangdi River to arrive into a narrow and cramped valley. Here the trail has been carved by crowbar into the rock face. In a narrow jumble of rock and trees is the village of Jagat 1342m. 

Day 04 Trek Jagat to Dharapani (1,943m).

The trail passes a series of waterfalls amidst a forest that becomes more temperate with oaks as you travel onward Chamche village. An ascent from Chamche village brings you to a lake at 1707m. Long ago a landslide blocked the river here, forming a lake. Only its flat bed remains today, with a magnificent waterfall. From here the Manang district begins. Continue trek, the valley begins narrow again and you are at Dharapaani 1943 m. Here is a police check post and the people of here are mostly Tibetans and Mananges.

Day 05 Trek Dharapani to Chame (2,713 m).

After half an hour walk from Dharapaani you enter to Bagachhap village at 2100m.It is cooler and the air is dry, as it is the rain shadow of Annapurna. From here you can see towering Annapurna II. Continue trek to Lattamarang at 2454m and to Chame at 2700m.

Day 06 Trek to Chame to Pisang at 3,185m. (5 hrs)

Cross-Marshyangdi River and continue trek through a beautiful pine and spruce forest. Finally we arrive Brathang village amidst beautiful apple garden. Further trek brings you to next bridge to cross  Marshyangdi again. From on here begins Manang. Gentle climbing begins through pine forest and glimpsing view of Mt. Annapurna. Finally you are at Pisang village 3185m. The main village is opposite to the river at a distance of 12 minute.

Day 07 Pisang to Manang (3,351m)

Pisang to Manang is about 5 hours trek. All the day with magnificent view of Annapurnas from different angles and beautiful landscape takes you to Humde village and further trek to Braga village where you can visit a 600 years old monastery. After 40 minutes trek you are in Manang village.

Day 08 Acclimatization day in Manang.

There are many opportunities for both easy and strenuous excursions from Manang.

Day 09 Trek Manang to Churilattar (4,180m)

Manang Churi Lattar is about 3 hours trek. The trail leads through high pasture, in some laces there are small teahouses to accommodate the trekkers. Today’s acclimatizing trip helps you for tomorrow. 

Day 10 Churi Lattar to Thorang Phedi (4,416m).

Churi Lattar to Thorang Phedi, the shortest trek of the Whole trip, is about 2 and a half-hours trek brings you to the base of the Thorang pass.

Day 11 Thorang Phedi to Muktinath (3,800m).

Start trek to cross the Thorang Pass 5416m and to Muktinath 3802m. Your trek begins early in the morning around 4.30 am, to avoid wind in the pass or to reserve the time for possible delay. The Thorang pass at the altitude of 5416m offers all the views of Mt. Annapurnas range, Daulagiri Range, Chulu west, Chulu east and many more of the nature to relieve the trekker’s curiosity. Little tired but with happiness you are in Muktinath, a holy place for all devotees. The Muktinath, decorated by Mt. Nilgiri and Mt. Tilicho to the southeast, Daulagiri to the southwest and Thorang peak and Yakawa Kang to the north is a open museum for all of today with villages like Dzar, Dzong, Khingga and Purang. 

Day 12 Muktinath to Marpha 2,660m.

Descend for about one and a half-hour to Kagbeni (2907m) which is one of the most important places for centuries. There is a monastery, a Police check post and ACAP (Annapurna conservation area project) office inside this visit worthy village. Walking around 2 hours from Muktinath most of the trekkers enjoy their lunch at Jomsom. After lunch continue trek to Marpha for about 2.5 hours trek. Marpha is one of the typical villages of the Thakali ethnic community who are one of main dwellers of the Kaligandaki Valley.

Day 13 Marpha to Kalopani is about 4 and half-hours trek.

The trail is always flat by the Thak Khola riverbed until Kalopaani. After Marpha you will visit Tukche and Kobang villages other villages of the Tsahalis. The valley is very scenic with Daulagiri and it’s Icefall, Tukche peak and Nilgiri.  

Day 14 Kalopani to Tatopani ( 5 hrs).

From Kalopani the trail descends until Dana and starts flat to Tatopani Bazaar. On the way you can see a series many beautiful waterfalls. Tatopani is one of the well-managed villages for Tourist. To have a rest day at Tatopani and to have a Hot Spring bath (natural) and relaxing day is extra complementary delight of nature.  

Day 15 Tatopani to Gorepani (2855 m) (6 hrs)

It is not so far but has to climb the 1,600m in a day to Gorepaani. On the way, you will pass through the villages of many ethnic groups in every short distance with different life style, housing style accordingly profession too. The main villages on the way are Ghara, Shikha, Phalate and Chitre. In these villages there are mixed ethnic groups for e.g. Kami, Chhetri, Magar and others but main ethnic group is Poon Magars. Gorepani is probably one of the best amazing viewpoints.  

Day 16 Ghorepani to Poonhill (3210 m) is a curious trip and finally very exciting.

Early in the morning around 4 or 5 am every people get ready to go to Poonhill viewpoint. It is about 45 minutes walk. The views from here are indescribable, as the state of inward peace can not be described in words. Every people are very busy for half an hour, all amazed and happy, everybody is in a laughing group to have a memorable photograph. Descend down to Gorapani and have a good breakfast and half days rest. 

Day 17 From Ghorepani to Gandrung (1951m) (6 hrs).

The trail goes to the east from Ghorepani and climb for half an hour with magnificent views. In March April the forest of Ghorepani will be blossomed in many colors. The Rhododendron flower, pine trees and the views of Mountains cheer you up. All the way to Gandruk leads through beautiful forest and panorama of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna south and Hiu-Chuli to the northeast. Gandruk is village of Gurungs, one of the ethnic groups, has their own language, culture and costume. 

Day18 Gandruk to Pokhara (900m).

Trek down to Birethanti for about 4 hours and to Pokara for another one-hour drive.
